Shrub (drinking vinegar ) is a refreshing creation of fruits, vegetables and herbs combined with sugar and vinegar. The word shrub is derived from the Arabic word sharab, which means “to drink.” Combine the shrub with sparkling water, club soda, tonic water, ginger ale, and your favorite libation for the perfect summer beverage.
Rhubarb, strawberries and local vegetables will be provided. After learning about the technique of combining fruit/vegetables, sugar, and vinegar to compose a shrub, you will be able to experiment with your own ideas. Bring your own strawberries, rhubarb, cucumbers, tomatoes or other fruit/vegetables your garden is producing if you want to try a different combination.
Sample shrubs will be served at the class. Recipes, ingredients, and jars are included.
